Little White SchoolThe Little White Schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin was completely restored in this project. A National Historic Landmark, it is known as the birthplace of the Republican Party. The building was in need of repair, and the HVAC and electrical systems needed updating. Restoration and rehabilitation was based on an earlier Historic Structures Report. The project was reviewed by the Wisconsin Historical Society for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation

Project Features

  • Regraded Site to route water away from building
  • New accessible ramp to the building
  • Repair of deteriorated, split, and damaged wood siding and trim
  • Removed multiple paint layers to bare wood, in order to prepare surfaces, prime, and repaint
  • Replaced asphalt shingle roof with Class C wood shingle system
  • Repaired doors and windows
  • New ambient lighting and controls consistent with period-style appearance for mid-1800s schoolroom conditions
  • New heating and cooling system with underground service

Firm’s Involvement

Funktion Design’s Rick Schroeder was the Project Manager while working for another architectural firm.
